Delta Summer Camp

Free weekly individual reading and literacy tutoring followed by basketball tutoring for boys and girls in 1st through 5th grade happening on Tuesday nights in 6 week rotations.

Books & Basketball

For six weeks on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:00, people from all different backgrounds in the community come and read one on one with an elementary school student to help improve their reading literacy. Half the time is spent doing the reading literacy portion and the other is an opportunity for the kids in the programs to get a free basketball workout.

Hoops & Ham

DELTA does a “Hoops & Ham” Basketball Camp and Food Giveaway. It’s held the Saturday before Christmas (right after kids go home for Winter Break) and provides our families with a Free Honey Glazed Ham for Christmas Dinner. Mentors and former athletes come volunteer and help with the basketball portion of things & ham giveaway.

Ahmad Price Basketball Camp

Every summer, the Ahmad Price Foundation and the DELTA Foundation host a two day basketball camp one weekend in August for kids ages 6-13. Our camp is dedicated to Ahmad Price who played basketball at Fern Creek 2014-18, Lincoln trail 2019-2021, and lastly Indiana University Southeast 2021-22, where he was an All American. In 2022, we tragically lost Ahmad, but his name, message, and spirit continues to live on. This camp is dedicated to uplifting youth, encouraging positive mental health habits, and teaching fundamental basketball skills which is everything Ahmad stood for.

Back 2 School Giveaway

Our annual Back 2 School Giveaway is where we provide our DELTA families with backpacks filled with school supplies. We also give teachers classroom supplies so they do not have to spend their personal money on classroom supplies. This event takes place right before the start of the school year!

DELTA Unity League

The Unity League is DELTA’s youth basketball league that was created to allow elementary and middle school children in our city to have an opportunity to play basketball within a team environment. The league was created to provide an opportunity to youth that typically wouldn’t get selected to play for their school basketball team, as many kids still are passionate for the sport. Building relationships, learning teamwork, and staying active, all while learning the game of basketball is what the league takes pride in.

DELTA’s Annual Shoe Drive

DELTA does an annual shoe drive where we collect a variety of shoes that are then donated to better serve underprivileged youth and their families. The shoes are eventually sent off to a third world country such as Panama, Dominican Republic, or Tulum, where in the past, we have gone to the country and hand-delivered the shoes, while also providing free basketball camps.

DELTA’s Special Needs Camp

We do an annual Special Needs camp which provides an opportunity for those in our community with special needs/autism to learn about the game of basketball. This is a great team-setting environment that not everyone gets to frequently experience & also a way for all involved to build long-lasting relationships/memories.

Annual Jay Scrubb/EZ Sports Group Back 2 School Camp

DELTA hosts the Annual Jay Scrubb Back to School Camp each summer, which provides students, athletes, and disadvantaged youth the opportunity to attend camps and receive back to school items for FREE. The camp focuses on Fundamental Basketball Skills, Sportsmanship, Team-Building, Strength and Conditioning Shooting & much more. Jay overcame a troubled childhood in Louisville and made NBA History as he was the first player to be drafted from Junior College straight to the NBA since 2003. Jay’s father, Jason Scrubb, is the Assistant Director of the DELTA Foundation.

Clean Up Portland

Clean Up Portland (Fall & Spring) is DELTA’s bi-annual event where volunteers gather at DELTA early on the day of the clean-up. They receive instructions, safety tips, and any necessary equipment, such as gloves, trash bags, and litter pickers. Teams are assigned specific areas to clean, such as streets, parks, or riverbanks. They work together to collect litter, remove graffiti, and tackle other environmental issues. It’s a hands-on opportunity to make a visible difference in the community. Throughout the day, volunteers have the chance to connect with neighbors, share stories, and build camaraderie. Overall, our bi-annual Portland Clean-Up Day is not only about tidying up the area but also about fostering a sense of pride, unity, and stewardship among those involved in DELTA & the community.
